About the Department:
The University aims to introduce Four-Year LL.B. course to facilitate students to obtain an LL.B. (Hons) Degree in twelve semesters within a span of four academic years. The programme aims to provide a broader legal understanding and academic discipline. It aims to enable a student to acquire firm understanding of legal principles and their legal knowledge in various areas of law. It will help them to train themselves to be an excellent legal practitioner. The student will be engaged in private practice or work for government or law agencies or will work in multinational companies and international organizations.
The course will give them the adequate preparation to solve the challenging problems, as they will encounter in future professional arena. The programme has been focused to develop the capabilities to identify and grow new opportunities and integrate theoretical knowledge with the capacity to apply such knowledge in practice. There are formal final examinations in most subjects and all works carried out in the program are considered in the overall assessment. A satisfactory record of class work will also be required at each stage.
Duration of Study:
Department of Law of the PUST offers Four-Year LL.B. (Hons) Degree comprising twelve semesters within a span of four academic years. Each academic year is divided into three semesters namely Spring (January to April), Summer (May to August) and Fall (September to December).
Minimum GPA 2.5 or 2nd Division in both SSC and HSC or A Level or successful completion of twelve years of studies at high school from abroad or equivalent. The University will follow the Bangladesh University Grants Commission’s guidelines for determining admission requirements.
Lecture Hour per Course:
The procedure of credit hour semester system will be practised in the academic programmes of PUST having involvement of (14) weeks of instruction in each semester and courses may have different credit hours having involvement of 14 instruction hours under each specific credit hour.
In this context, there shall have a 3 credit hours course having 14 instruction hours 1 course = 3 Credit Hours x 14 instruction hours = 42 hours.
To obtain the Degree of Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) with Honours, a student will have to complete minimum 135 Credit Hours with a minimum CGPA of 2.00. If any student fails in any course he/she will get the opportunity to improve the grade by retaking the same in the subsequent semester like all other students.
